Rockland Students Visit Israel

This past week Rabbi Dov and Shevy Oliver, directors of the Center for Jewish Life at RCC, returned from leading an uplifting Mayanot Birthright Israel trip to Eretz Yisroel with students from Rockland and the surrounding areas.

A number of the participants celebrated their belated Bar or Bas Mitzvahs and received Jewish names at a special event and celebration. The tour visited Tzfas, Tiveria, Yerushalayim and Tel Aviv. Some of the more special stops were in Tzfas where the boys went to the Arizal’s Mikvah and the girls had a private tour and discussion at the ladies Mikvah.

Highlights for many were the Friday night davening at the Kosel and separate learning programs at the Mayanot Men’s and Women’s programs.

A reunion Shabbos has already been scheduled for two weeks from now, before many students head off to new colleges, particularly those transferring from RCC.

Tu B’Av Farbrengen with Malka Touger

"Israel has no days as festive as the 15th of Av and Yom Kippur....” (Rabbi Shimon ben Gamliel)

Celebrate Tu B’Av at an exciting and inspiring farbrengen for women with world-renowned educator and lecturer, Mrs. Malka Touger, Sunday night, August 14, at 8:00 PM, at the home of Devorah Hayman, 10 Langeries Drive.

In the spirit of Tu B’Av, the evening’s theme will be marriage, shalom bayis and shidduchim. Malka Touger will explore the inspiring and profound lessons for marriage and shalom bayis taught from the way Hashem created man and woman. Everyone should also bring the names of those needing shidduchim to give brochas on this auspicious night!

Light refreshments will be served. Suggested donation is $7.

Today's HaYom Yom

No matter how much effort is exerted, no-one can earn one cent more than G-d has ordained that he - this particular person - shall earn.

One must do what is necessary, but one must remember that all his work is but an adjunct.

The main thing is G-d's blessing, and that blessing is earned by being observant of G-d's commands: Davening with a minyan, observing Shabbat b'hidur (beyond the minimum, with "beauty"), meticulous observance of kashrut, having children instructed by sincerely religious teachers.
