Bear on the Loose in Monsey

Mid Hudson News

MONSEY – It is not uncommon to see a bear lumbering through Lumberland or waddling through Wawayanda or Wawarsing, but it is unusual to see one meandering in Monsey.

Ramapo Town Police said a big furry creature was spotted on Remsen Avenue in Monsey and later in residential backyards between College Road and Dolson Road. Police called in the State Department of Environmental Conservation, but officers couldn’t find the animal, which had fled.

As of late Sunday night, police said the bear may still be in the area and they advised residents to stay away from it if spotted.
