Survivor Speaks at RCC

Yesterday, the Center for Jewish Life at RCC hosted a talk and slide presentation by Holocaust survivor Lola Rein Kaufman of New City, author of “The Hidden Girl: A True Story of the Holocaust.”

Lola Rein Kaufman, born in 1934, was just a young child when she lost her parents to the Nazi persecution. She spent the war years on her own, hiding and running. At the end of the war, her only possession was the little dress that her mother had lovingly made for her before they were separated forever. She has donated her dress to the US National Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. The dress was also part of a traveling exhibit. Mrs. Kaufman travels around the country with the exhibit, speaking to audiences about her experience.

Town of Ramapo Shred Day

Supervisor Christopher P. St. Lawrence announced that the Town of Ramapo will be sponsoring a Free Document Shredding Day for Town residents on Sunday, May 15th, in the Ramapo Town Hall parking lot, 12:00 Noon to 4:00 P.M., or until the on-site shredder truck is full.

"Our first Shredding Day was a tremendous success, shredding is the best way to dispose of credit card and financial statements, old tax forms, bills, checks and documents with personal identification" stated Supervisor St. Lawrence.

The shredder truck will be provided by HB Data Security. Metal, plastic items, three ring binders and hardcover books are not acceptable for shredding. The "Ramapo Shredding Day" limits each person to four boxes of paper documents.

"Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the U.S., said Shredding Day Coordinator Town Councilman Daniel Friedman, this endeavor is an opportunity for Town residents to have their sensitive documents properly disposed."
