Purim at Chabad of Suffern

Chabad of Suffern had well over 250 people, including many new families celebrating Purim for the first time, at its Hawaii-themed Purim party.

In addition to the megilla reading the festive party included a delicious Hawaiian buffet, grand megilla bingo, a fire juggler, hair braiding, live parrots, a hoola hoop contest, smoothie bar and much more.

More than 35 men wrapped Tefillin including a few who did it for the first time in their lives.

Center for Jewish Life Purim Parties

Over Purim, two parties were run by the Olivers, directors of Hillel of Rockland. The first one on Purim night was held at Cousins Pool Hall where the megillah was read by Eliezer Drew. The party attracted over one hundred Jewish youth from the area. The majority were either current or past RCC students but many were also other Jews in the area most of whom would not have heard the megillah or celebrated Purim otherwise. The party went on until almost 2:00 AM with dancing and costume contest awards and included a great menu of sushi, pizza, pastas, falafel and the like.

On Purim day a second party was thrown for a slightly older crowd in their mid-twenties in Crown Heights. It was mostly Birthright alumni from Rockland and surrounding areas but all of whom rely on these events for their connection to Yiddishkeit.
