K'hal Tzemach Tzedek Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur Seat Reservations - Advance Payment Now Required

Reservations for Yom Tov seats will begin this Sunday, September 6. If you had seats last year, those same seats will remain reserved until this Wednesday morning, September 9, at which point if you did not reserve them again for this year they will become available to the public.

Due to the Shul's serious cash flow crisis, all reservations will need to be accompanied with advance payment for next year's Shul membership and any extra seat charges. The payment can consist of post-dated head checks or one or more credit card authorizations.

For reservations please contact Avraham Hayman following weekday davenings at the Shul or at 845-371-0380 or

Minhagim for a Hachnosas Sefer Torah

The following are some select Minhagim pertaining to a Hachnosas Sefer Torah. For a more comprehensive list of Minhagim please click here.

  • The day of the completion of a Sefer Torah is a holiday on which Tachnun is not said.
  • Chassidim and men scrupulous in their deeds go to the Mikvah on this day before davening.
  • During davening, candles are lit in Shul.
  • One this day people should dress in their Yom Tov clothes.
  • At the time of completing the Sefer Torah and bringing it to the Shul, every action of honor, and the most scrupulous of honors, made [in the honor of the Torah] – is beautiful, praiseworthy and holy.
  • Emphasis should be placed to allow all Jews, men, women and especially children, to kiss the Sefer Torah's mantle at the time the Sefer Torah is being carried to the Shul. It is a segulah for health and long life.
  • There are those who bring their children still in the cradle to a position on the processional path of the Sefer Torah, so to merit placing the Sefer Torah’s mantle on the child’s face.
