RCC Hillel Center for Jewish Life Update

This past Tuesday, in preparation for Chanukah, students were treated to a craft workshop given by Shevy Oliver where they made Menorahs, Chanukah napkin holders and some very novel dreidels.
Last Thursday two Torah learning sessions were held in the Zechus for a Refuah Shlaimah for Mrs. Shari Gershan, the sister-in-law of Yitzchok and Rachel Reissman. Twenty two men learned with members of Anash at K’hal Tzemach Tzedek. Topics included Gemora, Rambam and Chassidus followed by Maariv. The women gathered at the same time at the home of Rabbi Dov and Shevy Oliver and thoroughly enjoyed an interactive Torah class given by Mrs. Bracha Meschaninov. Please have Shari - Simcha Esther bas Chaya Pesha - in mind in your Tefilos. Click here for more on Shari may she have a complete recovery soon.
This coming Shabbos more than thirty students are taking part in a Semester Send Off Shabbaton at the home of the Olivers and K’hal Beis Menachem.
To sponsor one of the many CJL programs please call 845-659-2388.

Rockland Receives $1 Million Grant for Terrorism Preparedness Efforts
From MidHudson News
Rockland County has been awarded over $1 million from the State Homeland Security Program to support preparedness efforts in the event of terrorist attacks. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency provides the funding.
The Rockland County Sheriff’s Department submitted an application for funding in October.
The Sheriff’s Department, Office of Fire & Emergency Services, Health Department and EMS will utilize the funds. Twenty-five-percent of the total grant will be used by law enforcement agencies in the county.
The grant will support planning, training and exercises associated with preparedness and prevention activities in the case of a terrorist event. Funds will also cover personal protective equipment for law enforcement agencies, along with reimbursement for holding training sessions.
"The continued vigilance against terrorist attacks is a must,” said Sheriff James Kralik. “The best way to be vigilant is to work in total cooperation with all law enforcement agencies in Rockland County to ensure success."
“Preparedness is key to effective response to emergency events. We, as a county, continue to hold training sessions and drills so we are prepared in the case of any emergency situation. This grant will help us be vigilant and ready to protect our residents against any type of terrorist threat,” said County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef. “Our top priority is to keep our residents safe.”
