Restored Yud Shvat Audio

Jewish Educational Media has obtained a previously-unreleased recording of the Farbrengen of 10 Shevat, 5728 – 1968, corresponding to this year's chapter in the Maamar Bosi L'Gani.
Though recordings of this event were previously available, they were muffled and difficult to follow. The current recording – on loan to JEM for restoration and preservation as part of their Living Archive Restoration Project – is of superior sound quality, enabling you to relive the Farbrengen with much greater richness and clarity.
For comparison, we present the old and new recordings side-by-side. The JEM team, in cooperation with , has decided to release it in its present form in time for the Tenth of Shevat. Click here to listen.
The recording was made by Rabbi Sholom Yisroel Hodakov, and we thank him for sharing it with Klal Yisroel.

Dovid Kaplan Art Exhibit at Helen Hayes Hospital

Dovid Kaplan invites you to view a large collection of his inspiring photographs on exhibit at Helen Hayes Hospital.
Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw is hosting an exhibit featuring the photography of Dovid Kaplan. The exhibit will be on display in the hospital Atrium from January 1 through February 29, 2008.
A native of Massachusetts, Mr. Kaplan completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, after studying Architecture at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has traveled extensively, visiting exotic and unusual locations around the world, and began his journey as an amateur nature photographer attempting to share his breathtaking vistas with others through the photographic medium.

Mr. Kaplan started with a 35mm film camera given to him by his father, Lewis, and remembers doing his own black & white developing in his teens and twenties. He got his first digital camera in 1999 and has not looked back since. He thoroughly enjoys the digital ability of viewing a captured photographic moment instantaneously on the digital camera screen and then the gratification of being able to print the image on the same day.

Mr. Kaplan has always been inspired by the essence of g-dliness as seen in nature from the days of playing hide and go seek in the New England woods near his home in Worcester, from the pristine wilderness of South-Eastern Alaska as seen from fishing boats, and from the Far East as a Peace Corps volunteer, to his pre-stroke camping trips and hikes in the various New York State Parks.

Mr. Kaplan has been a stroke survivor since August 2003, was a patient at Helen Hayes Hospital and takes advantage of his new lease on life by continuing his pursuit of capturing nature in its simple pureness with family or friends assisting him with his otherly ableness.

The exhibit at the physical rehabilitation hospital is open to the public on a daily basis and is free of charge. For additional information, call the Public Relations office at 786-4225.

N'shei Event - Ask the Dr.

Tzemach Tzedek Installation Dinner

In a most beautiful event, over 250 members and friends of Anash from around the greater Monsey area gathered last night, on Chof Daled Teves, for a formal dinner, in honor of the installation of HaRav Boruch D. Lesches as the Rav of K’hal Tzemach Tzemach Lubavitch of Monsey. The evening began with words of Divrei Torah by Rabbi Simcha Werner, one of the founders of the Lubavitcher community in Monsey. The shul President, Mr. Yisroel Schulman, told of the tremendous effect Rabbi Lesches has already had in the community and how the community looks forward to growing on all levels for many more years under his inspiring leadership. Rabbi Zalmen Leib Markowitz, the shul Gabbai, presented Rabbi Lesches with a beautifully framed Ksav Rabbunus after which the crowd jumped to their feet in song and dance. Rabbi Lesches then spoke warmly about his move from Australia and about his new Shlichus in Monsey and thanked his family and the community for all of their support. The keynote address was given by the Rebbe’s secretary, Rabbi Leibel Groner, who impressed the crowd with how fortunate the community is to have Rabbi Lesches as its Rav followed by a number of stories of the Rebbe. All participants received a leather bound bencher as a memento of this beautiful occasion.
